Square Enix Wins $600,000 From Unlicensed Sword Sellers
Posted in KOI love anime with tags final fantasy on March 5, 2009 by yui0254 firms had sold sword replicas based on Final Fantasy games, anime
Square Enix has announced on Tuesday that it settled its lawsuit against four wholesalers of unauthorized sword replicas from the Final Fantasy game franchise and computer-generated anime. Georgia’s Edgework Imports, Inc., Top Swords, Inc., and Wholesale Gallery, Inc. agreed to “a consent judgment for US$600,000 and injunctive relief” along with another company, California’s Pacific Solutions Marketing, Inc. The rest of the settlement terms for Square Enix’s first major American anti-piracy suit remain private. Square Enix had arranged earlier settlements with four other companies: KingofSwords.com, Master Cutlery, Inc., SwordDemon.com and TrueSwords.com.
The four defendants of the recently settled lawsuit gave the following prepared statement: “We regret having sold unauthorized replica merchandise based on the Final Fantasy franchise to our customers. We would not have begun importing and selling these swords if we knew that Square Enix would respond so aggressively to stop us. We will never make this mistake again.”
Yasuhiko Hasegawa, Square Enix’s general counsel, added, “We appreciate the efforts of our fans in identifying those who seek to sell them cheap replicas that undermine our efforts to bring only top quality goods and content to our customers.”

Japan Claims Victories At Oscars
Posted in 完全に日本音楽について [Other artist in Japan] on February 26, 2009 by yui025At the 81st Academy Awards held on Sunday in Los Angeles, Japanese films went two-for-two as both nominees walked away with a prize. The bigger winner was Yojiro Takita’s “Okuribito” (“Departures” ), winning the title of Best Foreign Language Film. The critically-acclaimed movie has already won a total of 60 awards at home, including 10 in the Japan Academy Awards.
However, this Oscar is a perhaps an even more remarkable achievement, given that “Okuribito” is the first Japanese film to win the award since it was established as a competitive prize in 1956.
Kunio Kato’s “Tsumiki no Ie” (“La Maison En Petits Cubes” ) won Best Animated Short Film, the first Japanese win in that category. The last Japanese animated movie to win an Academy Award was when Hayao Miyazaki’s “Spirited Away” took Best Animated Feature Film in 2003.
This is only the second time that Japanese films have won two awards in the same year. The first was in 1955, when Teinosuke Kinugasa’s “Jigokumon” (“Gate of Hell” ) won Best Color Costume Design and the honorary award of “best foreign language film first released in the United States during 1954.”
